Hong Kong is known for its ever-changing landscape and its infamous ability to replace the old with the new. It’s easy to forget the ‘what was’ in a dynamic environment like this, but some locals are going all out to keep yesteryear alive.
Using the technology of today (not Instagram, mind you), Hong Kong native Victor Lui has taken a step back in time in an attempt to recreate history exactly how it was.

On his website, Colourised Hong Kong, Lui has taken old, black and white photographs of the city (many of them captured in 1947 by award-winning Life Magazine photographer Mark Kauffman) and filled them with colour. He’s VERY good at staying inside the lines!

Lui’s little hobby has brought a whole new perspective to Hong Kong’s past, allowing us to see the pictures just as they (probably) were in real life.

Preserving the past or rewriting history? What do you make of them?
