Strap yourself in as the classic musical ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ rolls into town!

If you’ve ever been stuck in Hong Kong traffic, you’ll no doubt have dreamt of a flying car. Well dream no more, impatient commuter. Such a farfetched creation is coming to our city, albeit just to the theatre (sorry to get your hopes up there).

Face Productions – the wondrous award-winning team who brought us Into the Woods earlier this year, Legally Blonde last year, and Footloose in 2014 – will next month be landing in Hong Kong with one of the world’s all-time favorite musicals, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

First released as the classic 1968 film – starring the dashing Dick Van Dyke as eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, and the totally delish Sally Ann Howes as love interest Truly Scrumptious (if that is her real name) – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is still aired on TV every Christmas for good reason.

Via a script written by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes and songs by the Sherman Brothers, the film won hearts all over the world with the story of a restored race car, going by the name of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which just so happened to be able to fly, float, and do other remarkable things your average Toyota cannot.

The film was adapted for London’s West End in 2002, after which it became the longest-ever running musical at the London Palladium. It hit New York’s Broadway three years later.

The Face Productions show coming to Hong Kong is directed by Candice Caalsen, the creative force behind last year’s sensational Legally Blonde. Alongside the full-length version, an abridged interpretation to showcase younger performing arts talents and placate children with short attention spans will also be on offer.

This epic adventure of intrigue and discovery will take place at the Drama Theatre of Hong Kong’s Academy for Performing Arts from June 10 to 12. Get your tickets now!
