‘Snow’, ‘rainbows’ and fragrances to complement Hong Kong’s ‘Pyromusical’ New Year’s show

Thought you were just going to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks tonight? Think again. You’re going to be whisked into a “pyromusical” featuring rainbows, snow effects, fragrances and laser shows.

Yes, that’s right. The Hong Kong Tourism Board has indeed branded this year’s countdown celebrations as a “pyromusical”, which “interweaves pyrotechnics with fireworks, special lighting effects and music”, FYI.

The fireworks will be as impressive as ever (although not as impressive as those on Chinese New Year, obviously), while pyrotechnics will be launched off the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and various other less noteworthy buildings in Wan Chai and Admiralty.

Bonus attractions this year will include a “special snow and fragrance effect during the show”.

We don’t know what fragrance they’ve chosen, but let’s hope its not the traditional New Year’s scent of Sloppy Shame & Disappointment.

If that’s not enough, which it surely should be, the Tourism Board is also promising to grace us with the “first ‘rainbow’ of the New Year”, as “glittering rings and iridescent colours of the rainbow will light up the harbour”.

But don’t despair if you’re going to miss out, as you don’t have to be in Hong Kong to experience the weird shit that goes on here. The exciting show will be shared live with a global audience over a satellite feed!

Those with Smellovision (that never really happened, did it?) can also enjoy Sloppy Shame & Disappointment in the comfort of their home.

Happy New Year!
