Award-winning cinematographer Christopher Doyle, also known by his alter-ego Chinese name Du Ke Feng, returns tonight with a three part feature film/documentary exploring three generations of people living in Hong Kong.

Doyle, best known for his cult classics “Chung King Express” and “In the Mood for Love”, has shared exclusive stills from the film with Coconuts HK before the preview for invited guests tonight.

Successfully funded by Kickstarter, the film was made after Doyle spent more than a year recording interviews with dozens of people of all ages and backgrounds to create a quasi-fictional narrative telling the stories of three different generations in Hong Kong.

“Hong Kong Trilogy: Preschooled, Preoccupied, Preposterous” sees Doyle talk to “Preschooled” Hong Kong children about their understanding of the world, “Preoccupied” youth as they demonstrate for democracy on Hong Kong’s streets, and “Preposterous” old folk who refuse to give up on the search for love.
Incidentally, Hong Kong’s hippest Feng Shui master Thierry Chow – who featured on Coconuts HK – appears in the film.
The genre falls somewhere between fiction and documentary, as scenes are acted out to the backdrop of genuine voiceover interview.
The first public screening at Broadway Cinematheque will be held on Sept 28, marking the one year anniversary of the Umbrella Movement.
