Talking about “Identity 1”, judge Siu Wai Hang said, “Hong Kong is a predominantly Chinese society and women of ethnic minorities are often marginalised, and in an ideal society, people, regardless their race, gender, religion, should all enjoy the same rights. The award winning photo ‘Identity 1’ shows the sense of powerlessness and hope of ethnic minority women living in Hong Kong, reflecting on whether identity is the biggest barrier to social integration.”
The Grand Prize and People’s Choice winners will receive HKD20,000 and HKD15,000 cash, respectively, to spend on their projects.
The WMA Open Photo Contest takes place every year with the aim of engaging Hongkongers by asking them to submit photographs and start discussions on different topics, such as “Waste” (2014/15) and “Identity” (2015/16).
The next round of submissions will take place in June 2016, with the theme being “Mobility”. Start snapping those old people on the MTR pictures pronto!
