Do you own a pair of Chuck Taylor All Star Converse sneakers? (They’re the normal ones everyone’s got, FYI.)
Did you ever consider them a work of art? Well apparently, you should.
As part of Art Basel – like everything else in Hong Kong over the next week – Converse is to bless us with the global launch of its “Made by You” campaign, featuring the roughed-up and customised sneakers of international icons.

Photos of the personal kicks of the likes of Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, Futura, Jefferson Hack, Sayo Yoshida, Kate Lanphear and Glenn O’Brien will be on show at a Hollywood Road exhibition from March 14 – 18.
Similar exhibitions are also to be held in New York, London, Beijing and Mexico City.
If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, let it be known that Chuck Taylor sneakers have sold more than a billion pairs and are mentioned 13,000 DAILY in social media! That might be more than Kim Kardashian’s arse!

As the Brand puts it: “’Made by You’ is a true celebration of creative individuals, their stories and their sneakers. Whether they are hand painted, covered in mud or worn out with holes, each Chuck Taylor All Star portrait tells a deeply personal story of the transformation from a white, black, red or navy sneaker into a remarkable piece of art.”
