Nothing breeds acceptance and friendship quite like a karaoke night. Leave your insecurities and judgements at the door, open your mind… and possibly close your ears.
If you need a good excuse to drag all your mates to listen to you wail out “Wonderwall” once again, here it is.
IDAHOT (the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) – which is actually sticking an “I” on the end of that ugly acronym to include Intersex people this year – is hosting a sing-a-long sensation to raise funds for this year’s May 17 celebrations in Hong Kong.
Fuel up before you turn it up with bar snacks and dinner sets from Cafe Queen, before sauntering downstairs to sing your heart out in English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish or Malay at Volume: Beat.
All languages, singing abilities and sexual orientations will be welcomed!
The aim is to raise HKD15,000 to fund a series of exhibitions about LGBTI youth at universities campuses and government sites across Hong Kong and Macau, but we all know you just care about being the centre of attention.
What: Sing For Diversity – IDAHOT Karaoke Fundraiser
When: From 9pm, Wednesday May 6
Where: Volume: BEAT & Cafe Queen, 62 Jervois Street, Sheung Wan
Price: FREE entry
