Ever wondered what a portrait of Mao Zedong would look like if it were made of 12,000 stickpin badges? Probably still like Mao, but you get the point.
In case you missed the earlier exhibition at Comix Home Base, Galleria Vinci in Wan Chai will be showcasing the extraordinary work of Ng Lung-wai until July 13.
Ng is a local artist who creates portraits of iconic figures from the 1960s with collectibles from the same era.
He’s used thousands of European stickpin badges and vintage Hong Kong stamps to create the mosaic portraits, which are an impressive five metres by four metres in size.
It took Ng years to retrieve the collectibles he needed for the portraits; you can’t just buy stamps from the ‘60s at PARKnSHOP, you know.
The exhibition also features larger-than-life portraits of John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, John F. Kennedy and Che Guevara.
