‘Be our Guest’: 50,000 Hong Kong Disneyland tickets up for grabs in lucky draw

If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme… except maybe a free ticket to Hong Kong Disneyland. However, if you are one of many people who have been wishing upon a star for a free ticket to the happiest place in Hong Kong, you might be in luck.

The theme park sprung a surprise on residents yesterday by announcing a lucky draw with 50,000 free tickets up for grabs.

More than 330,000 people put the service to the test by registering for the More Disney Fun for Everyone in Hong Kong in the first four hours, Apple Daily reports.

Winners will receive a free one-day admission ticket to visit the theme park next year.

The lucky draw is only open to those who are Hong Kong residents and hold either a Hong Kong ID card or a Hong Kong birth certificate and a recent school handbook issued by a school in Hong Kong, or other legal document with photo identification.

Those entering the draw also need to name: the Hong Kong Disneyland attraction they think is the most fun, the Disney character they think is the most fun, and the seasonal event at Hong Kong Disneyland they think is the most fun.

The form needs to be completed within 10 minutes, and the deadline for entries is Thursday, Nov. 16.

The free ticket giveaway could provide a much-needed boost for the magical kingdom, which saw visitor numbers drop by 10 percent to 6.1 million in the year ending October 2016, and a loss of HK$171 million (about US$22 million) for 2016, marking its second year in the red.

Last month, the theme park wanted to show people how far they will go by kicking off a HK$10.9 billion (US$1.4 billion) multiyear project, which will see new themed areas (or whole new worlds) and attractions being added to the theme park every year for the next six years.

The government and the Walt Disney Company will pay HK$5.45 billion (about US$700 million) each to fund the project, which was approved by the Legislative Council’s Finance Committee in May.

Expansion projects due to open next year are a Moana-themed stage show in Adventureland, and a Marvel-themed interactive shooting game which will replace the Buzz Lightyear-themed shooting game in Tomorrowland.

Other expansion project highlights to look forward to include the Sleeping Beauty castle, which will pay tribute to all Disney princesses by 2019, a Frozen-themed area by 2020, and a themed area featuring Marvel characters by 2023.
