GU, Uniqlo’s cheap and cheerful sister brand, launched in Hong Kong over the weekend to the sheer (and solid, and striped) delight of local shoppers.
The brand’s spanking new Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway stores saw queues of Hongkongers snaked around the block, in line for discounted Japanese threads.

For a split second whilst passing through Causeway, our cynical asses thought it was an elaborate April Fool’s prank, but apparently the HKD149 palazzo pants and HKD99 hoodies are here to stay (or at least, until the “opening surprise” discount runs out).
This is the Japanese brand’s first foray into Hong Kong since opening in 1973. Owned by Fast Retailing, the parent company for Uniqlo, GU’s signature product is a pair of JPY990 (HKD69.6) jeans.
