Get an elephant in your room: Elephant Parade to auction off its Hong Kong herd

If you were a big fan of the Disney classics Dumbo or you couldn’t get enough of the Elephant March from Jungle Book (who could?), you might be interested in becoming one of the lucky few to take home a piece of Hong Kong’s cutest art stampede.

We’re sure you’ve seen the Elephant Parade around town; it’s really quite hard to miss. Hordes of baby heffalumps (cue: d’awww!), designed by up-and-coming artists from Hong Kong and overseas, have been roaming the world since 2006. They rocked up in Pacific Place, Cityplaza and Citygate Outlets on Aug. 1 and can still be seen in the city until Sept. 9.

It was quite a feat of logistics getting them all there. We’ve got the video to prove it!

With the aim of raising awareness and funds for elephant conservation movements in Asia, an auction will be organised on Sept. 11 (courtesy of Sotheby’s), with proceeds going to support projects by The Asian Elephant Foundation (TAEF) and WWF-Hong Kong.

Thirty-one of these cuties, designed by the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg, Sir Richard Branson and Agnes B, will be up for grabs at the black-tie event.

“It’s been a dynamic and meaningful journey bringing our elephants to Hong Kong,” said Mike Spits, Founder of Elephant Parade. “I also want to extend a huge thank you to all our artists who have created these masterpieces – they are all truly unique pieces of art, which all deserve a new home after the auction.”

So if you’ve got HKD3,000 to spare for one of the Grand Gala Auction tickets, and a unfathomable amount of spare space in your apartment, you know where you can go.

If not, Ice Age on Blue-ray ought to suffice.
