Eat your heart out Indiana: Disney HK reveals concept art of new Explorers Lodge

Want to feel like your an intrepid explorer without going even slightly off the beaten path? Hong Kong Disneyland’s upcoming hotel is going to be right in your comfort zone!

The Lantau theme park broke ground this week for its third luxury hotel, expected to be up and running by 2017. It comes in response to rising attendance since the 2013 expansion and further expected growth with the birth of the Iron Man Experience (!!).

Micky and his buddies have now released concept art of the so-called Disney Explorers Lodge, and boy, does it look exotic… in a totally fake way.

African savannah

The new 750-room monster promises to whisk guests into a world of nature, discovery and culture through a story that pretends the lodge was built by four explorers from the 1920s.

With different sections themed on a South American rainforest, an African savannah, a Polynesian island and general Asian nature, it is said to be inspired by the foursome’s travels.

South American rainforest

But don’t despair if this all sounds terribly unknown and unnerving, as our Walt also plans to squeeze in elements of familiar characters from Finding Nemo, The Lion King, The Jungle Book and Up.

The project is expected to cost a whopping HKD4.26 billion, a fifth of which will be coming from the public purse!

Polynesian island

Disney management shied away from revealing the expected room rates, but revealed the new digs would be cheaper than the Disneyland Hotel but more expensive than the Hollywood Hotel.

We’re sure we can all get a free stay though, seeing as though we’re paying for a big chunk of it ourselves.
