Sónar, the pioneering Spanish electronic music festival, has just confirmed a massive lineup for its first ever Hong Kong edition in April.
Acts like DJ Shadow, Dave Clarke, Lady Leshurr, Ellen Allien, Daito Manabe and Nosaj Thing are set to play at the Tai Po Science Park this spring. Local acts such as Social Room and oma’s Ocean Lam, Paradis’ Romain FX, and oma’s Taku Hirayama are also tapped to perform.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a celebration of Hong Kong’s electronic music scene if XXX wasn’t involved. The underground club will be holding an “XXX Experience” with guest DJs Kid Fresh and Yao.
Sónar International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art, as it’s known in full, is an electronic music and arts festival held annually in Barcelona. Since its inception in 1994, the three-day event has become a world-renowned celebration of cutting edge, avant-garde electronic music and digital culture.
In 2013, an in-festival conference called Sónar+D was created to offer activities, talks and workshops for people interested in the combination of digital media with creative pursuits, like visual arts.
The Hong Kong version of Sónar+D will see local makerspace Dim Sum Labs holding a workshop, as well as a workshop by the UK’s Dirty Electronics, where attendees are invited to “explore the border between play and sound” and create their own customised desktop modular synth.
