We know, we know, we’re a bit late with this one. In our defence, we’ve spent the first nine days of the month recovering from Clockenflap and talking obsessively about the weather, so you understand, right?
Now that we’re raring to go, though, here’s our pick of the top 10 music events this December:

Bass Music China and Wobble have collaborated to bring American producer Prism to our shores. “Dancehall project” Major Lazer has taken the world by storm in since its conception, beginning with smash single “Pon de Floor” in 2009 and most recently rolling in summer hit “Lean On”. Support comes in the form of Jack Ü (Diplo + Skrillex), Cashmere Cat, and CL (of 2NE1), which we don’t really understand, since Diplo is also a founding member of Major Lazer. How do you support yourself? Guess you’ll just have to go along to find out.

Where: Hall 10, AsiaWorld-Expo

Japanese rockers Envy have been working relentlessly since 1992, sharing split albums with This Machine Kills, Six Pence and Yaphet Kotto. Their hardcore sound has adapted in recent years to include a more post-rock vibe, leading them to tour with the likes of Coconuts HK favourites and post-rock deities, Mogwai. Local post-rockers Life Was All Silence will be supporting, and having seen them recently take the YourMum Stage at Clockenflap, we can confirm that they are most definitely ones to watch.
When: 8pm – TBC, Tuesday, Dec. 15
Where: Hidden Agenda, 2A Winful Industrial Building, 15-17 Tai Yip Street, Kwun Tong
Price: HKD350 advance, HKD400 on the door

Price: HKD300 with two drinks before midnight, one drink after midnight

Legendary bassist Nathan East is credited on over 2,000 recordings, but, chances are, you’ve not heard of him. Apart from his contribution to Daft Punk’s earworm “Get Lucky” last year, the veteran musician has worked with Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Barbra Streisand, Lionel Richie, Justin Timberlake and Stevie Wonder… to name a few. Not an experience to be missed, so thankfully he’s playing two shows in the same day!
When: 4.30pm – TBC, and 8.30pm – TBC, Saturday, Dec. 19
Where: Academic Community Hall, HK Baptist University, 224 Waterloo Road, Kowloon Tong
Price: HKD380 and up, with a VIP meet and greet package available only for the 4.30pm show
Tickets: Here (first show), and here (second show)

Much-loved darlings of the Hong Kong indie scene, Hungry Ghosts are releasing their new album “Hold Dear Forever” at Hidden Agenda. The album digresses from the more chaotic post-rock sound of previous releases, resulting in what The Underground HK called a more “streamlined” result, which retains their trademark “emo” sound while “[embodying] the spirit of Hong Kong”. The concert is bound to be an emotional one, with the group possibly disbanding forever, as lead singer Luke Chow and bassist Tiffany Laue are leaving Hong Kong following their recent nuptials (congrats, guys!). The band will be joined by extra musicians to create an “epic large” sound, according to Chow.
When: 8.30pm – TBC, Saturday, Dec. 19
Where: Hidden Agenda, 2A Winful Industrial Building, 15-17 Tai Yip Street, Kwun Tong
Price: HKD180 advance, HKD200 on the door (both include full length CD)

OLD SON are hosting their first event with local DJs Thai Bee, The Groove Thief, Jesse James, and many others. The “12-hour extravaganza” promises the “finest rhythms and beats” on the beautiful Shek O Headland, with zero cover charge and a BYOB policy (with a 24 hour liquor store nearby). To put your mind at ease, the organisers have very helpfully included details about transport, alcohol, rubbish disposal and security on the Facebook page (link included below).
When: 6pm – 6am, Saturday, Dec. 19 – Sunday, Dec. 20
Where: Shek O Headland, Shek O
Price: Free, but more details here

As you Coconauts may know, there’s nothing we love more than supporting some homegrown talent. Stars of Wonderland is an event organised by three young Hongkongers who have varying degrees of DJing experience. DJs Don Octavius, Son of Ammo, and L’Homie (formerly Commandah Panda) will be spinning a range of trance, chilled pop mixes, and frenetic trap and techno influenced beats.
When: 10.30pm – 4am, Saturday, Dec. 23 – Sunday, Dec. 24
Where: FLY Club, 24-30 Icehouse Street, Central
Price: HKD300 advance, HKD350 on the door (includes open bar until 1.30am)
