Let’s face it – our city is shamelessly full of nerds.
Last year, a record one million visitors manoeuvred their way through insane crowds just to get a good deal at the annual Hong Kong Book Fair, spending an average of HKD987 per visitor.
The fair is back again this year, and it’s bigger than ever. Running from Wednesday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 21 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, this year’s event will feature hundreds of exhibitors, offering the newest books from both local and international writers.
Dozens of authors will also be participating in panel discussions about the art of literature, including famous contemporary philosopher Alain de Botton, Nigerian poet Ben Okri, British historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, and biographer and daughter of the late Margaret Thatcher, Carol Thatcher.
With regular adult tickets priced at HKD25, it’s surely not a deal to be missed.
If you’re extra cheap, you can just stand around and read a book without paying for it, though the packs of sweaty shoppers pushing against you will probably piss you off soon enough.
