Bruce Lee’s daughter to help produce kick-ass biopic on dad

Shannon Lee, daughter of Hong Kong superstar Bruce Lee, has announced that she is developing a biopic based on the life and philosophy of the legendary martial artist.

What will set the feature film apart from other movies about Lee is that it will be the first movie made with the family’s full involvement.

“There have been projects out there involving my father but they’ve lacked a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry,” Shannon Lee told Deadline.com.

“They haven’t captured the essence of his beliefs in martial arts or storytelling. The only way to get audiences to understand the depth and uniqueness of my father is to generate our own material.”

“Many don’t know that Bruce Lee was also a prolific writer and a creator of his own unique art and philosophy,” Lee added. “That’s what we want to show — not just his kick-ass physicality, but the depth of his character and beliefs.”

Bruce Lee Entertainment, a company set up by the family to set official projects into motion, will partner with Lawrence Grey, who produced the hit TV series “Las Vegas” and Janet Yang, who was behind numerous Asian gems such as the “Joy Luck Club” and “Shanghai Calling”.

Bruce Lee Entertainment also has TV series in the works with “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin, as well as a reality-based show with Keanu Reeves.

Talk about cashing in!

Bruce Lee died in 1973 at the age of just 32 from a cerebral edema which caused the brain to swell.

The inventor of Jeet Kune Do starred as Kato in the Green Hornet TV series, before going on to Hollywood to work on revolutionary martial arts films such as “Fist of Fury” and “Enter the Dragon.”
