The 7th Edition of the Asia Contemporary Art Show (phwoar, bit of a mouthful) ended on Sunday with buyers and exhibitors chatting late into the night.
The fair is held twice a year at the Conrad hotel, with a Spring Edition in March and Fall Edition in October… how very fashionable.
Hong Kong based collector Ottokar Montfort said “The hotel format is a really novel idea, different to say a big exhibition like Art Basel.” Montfort and his wife particularly liked the work of Korean artist Ji Yo-Sang. “It’s always nice to find a gem, and I appreciate this artist’s technique.”
Another buyer, Neena Birdee, praised the wide variety of art on display. “There seems to be something for everyone at the Show, more serious and collectible works, to younger artists [who are] good for first-time buyers.”
Wilson Tang, director of China’s Ben Gallery said “[Artist] Chen Ben has sold really well – in fact, I am almost sold out of his works, and should have brought more.” Tang expects to close more sales next week following inquiries from interested buyers.
Following the success of the ACAS in Hong Kong, the Show will be expanding to Singapore for their inaugural edition of the Singapore Contemporary, which will be held Jan. 21 to 24 next year.
The Singaporean Contemporary is bound to attract seasoned ACAS exhibitors like Richard Moon, director of Korea’s Gallery GAIA. Moon says he has already applied and is excited to expand his audience of collectors and buyers to Southeast Asia.
This season’s ACAS continues online, with more than 6,500 artworks by 900 artists available on the show’s website.
The 8th edition of the Asia Contemporary Art Show will be held March 24 to 27, 2016 at the Conrad Hong Kong.
