Accidental drone photo of newlyweds on Hong Kong roof is awesome, but also Photoshopped

A film director has captured romantic hearts on the internet after accidentally shooting what is being dubbed “the best wedding photo of all time” – although it’s not without some nifty doctoring.

Brandon Li, 34, who was educated in the US but whose family lives in Hong Kong, was apparently using a drone to shoot the sunset when the battery started to die, forcing him to turn the camera downwards as he flew it home.

Li says it wasn’t until he looked through the footage later that he spotted the striking image of newlyweds making lawn angels on top of a Hong Kong skyscraper, a beautiful contrast against the sea of grey.

Li has since posted the photo on Facebook and Instagram in a bid to find the couple and/or gain a wee bit of notoriety for himself, no doubt.

Call us cynical, and you’d be right.

In fact, Li admitted in an interview with the BBC that he did in fact boost the colour of the pic – fair play, who doesn’t? – and also airbrushed out two photographers standing at the couple’s feet, which kind of ruins the otherwise assumed intimacy of the moment, we dare say.

Why he didn’t also airbrush out the dude sprawled topless on a daybed in the corner is anyone’s guess, though.

Li claims his reason for flooding social media with the snap is that he wants to track down the couple in order to give them his shot as a wedding present, which we have to admit is a sweet idea.

He thinks the building is J Residence in Wan Chai.

Li also, naturally, had some choice words to say about the photo being a metaphor for Hong Kong life:

“You usually see these really cold pictures of Hong Kong looking really crowded and grey, and here’s this moment where two people are doing something very good and joyous. It’s like making your own oasis of joy in the city.”

We think a better metaphor would be: In Hong Kong, there’s no point doing something very good and joyous unless someone is taking photos.

FYI, Li also shot this STUNNING travel film “Hong Kong Strong”, which, for once, we have absolutely nothing snarky to say about.
