A bakery, which has operated in Hong Kong for close to half a century and counts actor Chow Yun-fat among its customers, has been saved from closure by a white knight at the eleventh hour.

Hoover Cake Shop in Kowloon City was set to close tomorrow.

But Sing Tao Daily learned that the bakery, which the owners wanted to close due to their old age, has found an investor.

HK01 reported that the investor is The Academics Group, which runs The Coffee Academics cafe chain.

There have been conflicting reports over whether the bakery will reopen at its current site or move to a new location, but what is clear is that it will still close for the time being tomorrow.

The daily also said that the current baker will be staying on.

The cake shop is famous for its baked goods including egg tarts made with puff pastry, walnut cakes and pineapple buns.

There have been long queues outside Hoover Cake Shop after news broke of its planned closure earlier this month.
