The fifth incarnation of Hong Kong’s International Chamber Music Festival is kicking off this week and running through the weekend with six different events. The theme for the 2014 festival will be centered on iconic German composer and pianist Johannes Brahms. A good outing for those wishing to feel a little more sophisticated or wind down to some soothing classical chamber numbers. This weekend’s performances will be held at the Academy for Performing Arts Jockey Club Amphitheatre. Click here for a full listing of the chambers events.

Founder of one the more influential hip-hop groups of the last decade, Das Racist, Heems alongside Despot will be bringing their brand of satirical rhymes to Hong Kong this weekend as part of their ongoing Asia tour. After releasing two mix tapes following the breakup of Das Racist, Heems is all set to release a full LP this year, so be prepared to get down to some new material while acting like you’ve totally heard it before. If winding down to classical music isn’t you’re cup of tea, then head to Kowloon’s renowned venue Hidden Agenda for some good ole’ fashion speed metal. Colorado’s teeth gritting thrash outfit Havok is taking the stage on Saturday for what promises to be a rowdy night with dueling guitar solos and a double kick drum. Still not sure if you prefer the chamber music? Then check out this video for the band’s song ‘Give me liberty… or give me death’ and decide for yourself. Tickets are HK$230.

If you haven’t found a new band to support this year, then don’t worry Hong Kong’s Backstage Live has got you covered. Saturday night the venue is set to have Murmur, Carseat (卡位) & Hydroscope taking the stage for a night of homegrown local rock. Tickets: HK$150.
