Tunes, Tastings, and Tipple: What’s on at Hong Kong’s first ever Gin Jubilee

It’s not long until Hong Kong’s inaugurual East Imperial Gin Jubilee kicks off! There’ll be parties, masterclasses, and guided bar tours, where gin enthusiasts of every level (novice, gin-termediate, and juni-pro) can come together for a botanical bonanza.

As the East Imperial Gin Jubilee’s official media partner in Hong Kong, we’ve got the lowdown on what to do, eat, and most importantly, drink during this five day gin fest. Oh, and did we mention that all events are free to attend? Scroll down for more gin-formation:

What: Best G&T in Hong Kong competition
When: Tuesday, Aug. 30 – Saturday, Sept. 3
Where: 18 participating bars across Hong Kong (see full list here)

Throughout the entire event, all 18 local bars participating in the Jubilee will be whipping up special gin and tonic recipes, which are in the running for the title of “Best G&T in Hong Kong”. To vote, all you have to do is Instagram a photo of your favourite entry, include the bar location, and add the hashtag #GinJubilee2016.

But that’s not all! The most creative G&T Instagram or “Best Ginstagram” will be announced at the festival’s closing party, the prize for which is a two-day trip to Singapore in November to attend the O.G. Jubilee. Get ‘gramming, guys.

What: Tunes & Tonic Party
When: 2pm – 5pm, Tuesday, 30th August
Where: Potato Head, 100 Third Street, Sai Ying Pun (Google Maps)

The Jubilee’s getting started in style with the Tunes & Tonic party at Potato Head, one of the coolest new additions to the local F&B scene. Prepare yourself for delicious craft gins (specifically, Citadelle and Death’s Door) killer tunes, and scrumptious canapés.

We’ll be there sippin’ on gin, laid back… but our similarities to Snoop Doggy Dog end there, because there’s no need to have our minds on our money when drinks are only HKD50.

What: Coconuts HK x Proof & Company Gin Ramble
When: 6:45pm – 9pm, Wednesday, 31st August
Where: The Pontiac, The Woods, Ee Da Le, Foxglove

Coconuts Hong Kong is teaming up with leading craft spirits distributor Proof & Company for a Gin Ramble this Wednesday, during which we’ll be taking 10 lucky Coconuts HK readers on an exclusive tour around some of city’s best bars to sample gin and tonics made with Aviation, St. George, Monkey 47, and Tanqueray No. Ten.

Our gin-ius guide for the evening is Jeremy Moreau, Spirits Evangelist and General Manager of Proof & Company, who’ll be teaching us all about this bewitching drink as we sip on some (free!) G&Ts… for research purposes, obviously. Details on how to join the tour here.

What: Oysters n’ Tonic Masterclass
When: 6pm – 8pm, Thursday, 1st September
Where: Timothy Oulton, 17 Gough Street, Sheung Wan (Google Maps)
Tickets: To secure one of the limited spots available, email Peter Davies at peter.davies@timothyoulton.com

Proof & Company’s Portfolio Director David Cordoba will be hosting an intimate masterclass on how to pair gin and oysters at luxury British furniture shop Timothy Oulton. The supremely sippable, citrusy Fords Gin and premium tonics from East Imperial will be provided to complement the moreish molluscs. Sounds divine.

What: Gin Lane Street Party
When: 6pm – late, Saturday, 3rd September
Where: 8-12 Wo On Lane, Lan Kwai Fong, Central (Google Maps)
Price: Free!

The original Gin Jubilee in Singapore has gone out with a bang for three years running, and the Hong Kong version’s no different. Wo On Lane in Central will be transformed into a “Gin Lane” on the final day of the Jubilee, with pop up bars lining the street as we boogie gin-to the wee hours.

Coconuts Hong Kong will have our very own bar, and we’ll be giving away HKD1,000 worth of drink coupons away for FREE to two lucky readers! See details on how to enter our giveaway here:

All the bars competing for the title of “Best G&T in Hong Kong” will be offering their twists on the classic drink for HKD50 a pop, and the winner of the aforementioned “Best Ginstagram” will also be announced at the party.
