Order by tablet, receive by mini train, pay by Octopus – HK’s most antisocial restaurant is here!

If you hate personal interaction as much as the next Hongkonger, you’re going to love Genki Sushi’s new antisocial restaurant concept in Tsuen Wan Plaza.

The outlet is Hong Kong’s first fully automated sushi store, which allows you to order direct to the kitchen by tablet computer without the need to wave over a waiter.

Your food will then be delivered by a mini train modelled on Japan’s famous bullet trains, again negating the need to say “thank you”.

Finally, you’ll be able to pay by Octopus card or PayWave and waltz out without looking anyone remotely human in the eye.

Sounds like paradise, but if you’re worried that someone who works there might try and smile at you, there’s always the self-service takeaway machine.

According to Enterprise Innovation, Genki Sushi, which was Japan’s first conveyer belt sushi restaurant in Japan in 1968, plans to open more fully automated stores in Hong Kong in the near future.
