OMG! WTF, LKF? The annual Lan Kwai Fong Carnival is coming back as ‘Occupy LKF’

As if Occupy Central wasn’t enough, Hong Kong has just rebranded the city’s beloved Lan Kwai Fong Carnival as Occupy LKF. Like, WTF? It’s time for a different sort of mayhem!

While we’re not entirely sure what the thought process was in the development of this idea (or where it was to even start with), but the 13-year-old outdoor festival will be back on Oct. 11-12 from 1pm onwards as Occupy LKF in light of all the Occupy Central protests for universal suffrage.

To show that ‘politics’ and ‘parties’ don’t always mean ‘political parties’, the Godfather of LKF, Allan Zeman, believes that Occupy LKF will be a light-hearted way to honour the city’s on goings, but to also forget all the troubles and have fun like in the good ol’ days.

“I doubt whether this would be the place where people would want to become political. LKF is not the right place to send the message,” said Zeman.

Going with a Spanish theme in line with Spain’s national day, crowds are to expect daylong parades, Spanish tidbits, samba dancers and a whole range of percussions – the whole enchilada. What’s more is that it’s all free!

Though, if things get too crazy, the possibility of shutting down isn’t unlikely. However, we feel the only kind of chaos LKF’ll be seeing is thousands of drunken dancer with sombreros perched on their heads. Occupying Central certainly won’t be featuring too much in alcohol-clouded minds.

Damn straight! Hongkongers definitely don’t like to mix business and pleasure.
