Springtime’s almost upon us! As the temperatures begin to gradually creep up and flowers begin to bloom, we’re finding ourselves longing for hanami (cherry blossom-watching) season in Japan. Unfortunately, between the difficulty of nabbing reasonably priced flights and securing time off work, getting to Nippon to look at the sakura is much easier said than done.
Which is where Ovolo comes in. From this week to mid-May, the Hong Kong hotel group’s transforming the sprawling terrace of CIRQLE, the popular eatery at their “industrial-chic” Southside hotel, into a zen Japanese oasis called “Sakura Sakura”. Just a stone’s throw away from the new-ish Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, you’ll find a garden brimming with delicate pink blossoms, crystal-clear saké (or ice-cold beer if that’s more your thing), and all the tasty Japanese food you could possibly eat. Oishii.
Some of the food on the menu this spring includes Miso Corn on the Cob, Chicken Kara-age Sliders with Spicy Slaw and Katsu Sauce, Tempura Oysters with Wasabi Cream and Salmon Roe, Black Miso Cod Tacos with Pickled Daikon, Beer and Miso Marinated Pork Belly Skewers, and Prawn with Kombu butter. (The list goes on, but we’re just making ourselves hungry now.) To wash it all down, there’ll be smooth, smooth saké from Hong Kong’s very own Four Fox Saké, hoppy golden ale from Hitachino Nest’s Hong Kong brewery, and more.
In celebration, Ovolo’s throwing a free-flow, all-you-can-eat launch party this Thursday, where you can (and should) eat as much food and drink as much booze as you like. There’ll be a lucky draw, live entertainment, and the opportunity to meet the folks behind Hitachino Nest and Four Fox Saké. All attendees will also get a free can of Hitachino Nest to take home, which will be filled on the night with fresh draught beer. Tickets are HKD250 (advance) or HKD300 on the door, but seeing as we love our Coconauts, we’ve landed a few tickets and fantastic prizes (think: discounts, free booze, the whole shebang) for ya.
