Become a musician for the night with the HK Philharmonic at their largest outdoor event!

If you thought Occupy Central was the only outdoorsy “thing” happening these days, think again, because there’s more than just a proletariat struggle for democracy that’s got us singing together.

On Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:30pm, the Hong Kong Philharmonic will be returning to The New Central Harbourfront to perform their interactive Symphony Under The Stars with your help. Conductors Perry So and soprano Xi Wang will be leading the performance for an expected audience of 10,000 or more.

Don’t play an instrument, or consider yourself tone-deaf? No big! Anyone can play a part in Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’s largest outdoor symphonic event and set free their inner Mozart for the night.

With the aim of bringing classical music to the forefront with popular overtures and operatic selections, the public will be encouraged to download their special app (available now in the Apple App Store or Google Play) to join in with the orchestra by playing an interactive game with special sound effects.

However, if you’re far more musically capable and actually play a real instrument (which, let’s face it, includes the vast majority of the city’s population), you’re invited to upload a video of yourself playing Offenbach’s Can-Can onto YouTube.

Send the Hong Kong Philharmonic a Facebook message with a link of your video by Nov. 7, and your video might be broadcast at the performance for everyone to see.

With tickets going for HKD 0 a pop (yup, you read that right!), make sure to grab your pair at a Tom Lee Music Store or at the Symphony Under The Stars official website.

This city really has that “do you hear the people sing” thing going on, huh?
