Souls of Hong Kong: Joyi and Matthew at Tsim Sha Tsui East

SOULS OF HONG KONG – A very sweet couple, Joyi and Matthew, were photographed at Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Matthew tells us how they got together, “We were colleagues. I thought Joyi was very cute, I liked her a lot. I thought she might like me too. Before we got together, I wanted to know when her birthday was but she refused to tell me no matter how many times I asked her. So I secretly took her mobile phone and found her birthday on her Facebook setting. She seemed to be angry at what I did at the time, so I asked her out and treated her to dinner to apologise. And since then we have been together for a year.”

Souls of Hong Kong is a new Coconuts series of street portrait photography inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York. Every human has a story to tell, and we intend to share some from the millions of souls who call Hong Kong home.
