This year’s Western Valentine’s Day is particularly auspicious as it falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the last day of the Chinese New Year celebrations aka Chinese Valentine’s Day. In the past, singles would participate in matchmaking games on this auspicious day.
Every year, Hong Kong’s annual Lunar New Year Lantern Carnival takes place to conclude the Chinese New Year festivities. Like previous years, an array of glowing lantern displays accompanied by performances of classical songs, dance and traditional stage arts fill the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza space on Carnival Day – the 15th day of the first lunar month which is Feb. 14 this year. There will also be other activities like nostalgic games, palm-reading, and lantern riddle games. If you can’t make the carnival tonight, the lantern installations will be on display until Mar. 2.
