Coconuts TV: The last Jews of Myanmar

Did you know that Myanmar once had a thriving Jewish community? Neither did we until we heard about Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue in Yangon, one of the last remaining vestiges of Judaism in the country.

Their community was once so powerful in Myanmar that the mayor of then Rangoon (now Yangon) was a Jew.

But today there are only about 20 Jews left in Myanmar, and we spoke with the youngest one.

“I feel more Jewish in here than in here than in other countries, because you have a responsibility to keep the tradition,” said Sammy Samuels, the youngest Jew in Myanmar.
