Wild elephant paths considered after young bull’s death

Park officials are considering creating jungle pathways for wild elephants one week after a young bull was struck by a car and killed.

Creating a means for the wild elephants to wander between national park areas would help keep them away from roads,

Construction of new homes and scarcity of resources during the drought season contribute to elephants wandering outside of the safest areas, according to Department of National Parks authorities.

On Wednesday, an auto accident killed seven people and left a wild elephant mortally wounded. He was later euthanized.

Wild elephants are relatively well protected, and about 420 live in the eastern forests in Chachoengsao, Srakaew, Chon Buri, Rayong and Chanthaburi provinces, Thai PBS reported.
