Victims’ families seek premeditated murder charge for Mercedes driver over fatal crash

Police have been asked to consider a charge of premeditated murder against the Mercedes-Benz driver involved in a fatal high-speed car crash last month that killed two students in Ayutthaya.

Thivakorn Horsaeng, father of Thanthaphat Horsaeng, and Thongthip Thaworn, mother of Kritsana Thaworn, met with Pol. Col. Pitsanu Tapinta to demand that police file a premeditated murder charge against Jenphop Weeraporn.

Jenphop, 37, was reportedly driving at an estimated speed of over 200 kph when he crashed his Mercedes-Benz into the back of another car, killing Kritsana, 32, and Thanthapat, 34, both masters’ graduates from Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University.

A lawyer for the Horsaeng family said the victims’ parents want police to file a premeditated murder charge against Jenphop as the suspect was travelling extremely fast which meant he could foresee that the speeding car could cause deaths if it crashed into other vehicles, reported Bangkok Post.

Jenphop currently faces seven charges over the deadly crash: reckless driving causing death, property damage, driving without regard for safety causing death, driving while unfit to do so, drink-driving causing death, driving under the influence of drugs, and speeding.

Pol. Col. Pitsanu said talks between the police commander and a prosecutor will take place soon to determine whether to press ahead with a premeditated murder charge.

Investigators will forward the case to prosecutors for indictment by next Tuesday, Pol. Col. Pitsanu added.
