A Thai man was in police custody today on suspicion of attacking a Russian woman while she jogged along a reservoir near Pattaya.

Kanteepop Thanachotsomboon, 37, was being questioned by police since he was apprehended last night for allegedly assaulting 38-year-old Russian teacher Elena Yzulkova the night before as she jogged around the Mabprachan Reservoir in Chonburi’s Bang Lamung district.

Police believe he intended to sexually assault Yzulkova, but she fought him off and he ran away. During the altercation, Yzulkova suffered injuries to her head, neck, and body. She was taken for treatment at Bang Lamung Hospital, according to Col. Damrong Eiampairoj, chief of Nongprue police.

Police arrested Yzulkova’s attacker at around 10pm last night at a residence in Soi Noen Plub Wan, less than 10 kilometers from the scene of the attack.

Kanteepop admitted to the crime, Damrong said. Nongprue police will hold a news conference later today.
