Promenade Proposal: BMA says ‘I do’ to impact study for 14km river walk

How would you like to see a 14-kilometer promenade along the Chao Phraya linking the Rama VII and Pinklao bridges?

Khon Kaen University and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Latkrabang (KMITL) have agreed to study the impact of the proposed project as part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Chao Phraya landmark riverside project.

The first phase of the study, slated to last just 210 days, will examine the environmental effects of the project as well as schemes for riverside development, PR for the promenade, progress reports and hearings for the public to share their thoughts.

The two schools have signed a THB120 million agreement regarding the planning and study for the proposed promenade. Khon Kaen University is responsible for the study of the environmental impact on the river and its banks while KMITL will take care of the other aspects of the study.

The proposed project includes a walking path and bicycle lane as well as park and recreation areas and all necessary facilities such as restrooms, bike racks and disabled accessibility.

However, critics say that the proposed impact study is far too short to know the true significance of the project.

To stay in keeping with the spirit of the project, the proposed design features classic Thai architecture and will be free and open to the public, The Nation reported.
