Junta chief Prayuth Chan-ocha has asked the Ministry of Culture to draft a legislation to punish promotional models, or “pretties”, who dress too provocatively.
At Government House yesterday, Prayuth addressed the country’s hottest issue of the moment — the bikini-clad Motor Show pretties — by saying the authorities need to impose a limit on how sexual the auto shows can be.
“This is a matter of individual conscience. They can’t use an excuse that they do it for money. Certain things are meant to stay inside the house — the bedroom,” Prayuth said.
Prayuth said the law may be amended to allow for stricter controls and increase the punishment for inappropriate clothing and performances at public events, Bangkok Biz News reported.
While the Bangkok Motor Show is renowned for its focus on which car label has the hottest pretty, Prayuth’s comment came after soft-core porn star Cherry Samkhok made headlines at the show last week.
Cherry earned the attention of local media and faced public criticism by performing an erotic dance with an unknown male model in sunglasses, who stripped off his shirt and writhed away with the adult star.
Cherry and her dance partner were fined THB5,000 on a charge of public obscenity. The organizer and manager of Mirage Audio booth was hit with the same fine.
Ahead of the show this year, Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat warned that the pretties tarnish Thailand’s reputation and urged them to better reflect “Thainess.”
