The public relations office of Wat Phra Dhammakaya and doctors treating Phra Dhammachayo have said the controversial abbot was too sick to meet with the Department of Special Investigation yesterday.
The abbot was summoned to appear by 9am yesterday to answer three charges at the DSI: conspiracy in money laundering, money laundering, and theft.
However, only his lawyer appeared at DSI headquarters.
Phra Sanitwong Wutthiwaso, director of the temple’s public relations office, said in a statement released on Facebook yesterday that Phra Dhammachayo has been suffering from a severe headache since Friday, which hinders his balance.
The abbot also has back and left leg pains as a result of inflammation of the muscles, along with ailments from diabetes, a blood clot on his left leg and infectious wounds on his feet, reported Thai PBS.
Doctors have advised the abbot to rest and suspend all activities for 15 days.
One of the doctors treating the abbot, Dr Chuchai Pornpattanapan, backed up Phra Sanitwong Wutthiwaso’s statement, saying the abbot has been sick since Friday and his condition worsened on Sunday evening.
