YouTube 2016: Thailand’s most popular videos are mostly music and drama

YouTube announced the list of the most watched videos of 2016 in Thailand today, and the list proved how much Thais love music videos and watching TV clips online.

It seems that there’s nothing Thai viewers like better than to sing along to their favorite acts. The most popular video of 2016 in Thailand was a clip of a contestant covering famous music on the TV show “I Can See Your Voice,” which scored over 24 million views. Meanwhile, two clips from “The Voice Thailand” also made the top ten.

The most popular video in Thailand of 2016 features a contestant from “I Can See Your Voice” covering the Thai song “Samer,” originally sung by Pongsit Kamphee.

Drama is also big, as an episode of this year’s most discussed soap opera “Nakee,” proved to be very popular and made the list. A controversial episode of a dating TV show “Take Me Out Thailand” also gained millions of views alongside headlines in newspapers.

Thailand consistently ranks in the top ten countries globally in terms of YouTube watchtime. In the last year alone, mobile watchtime grew by 85 percent. In addition, Thailand’s YouTube community has continuously growing with 25 local channels having more than 1 million subscribers. Eight of these channels reached this milestone in the last 12 months.

There are also more than 260 new Silver channels (which have over 100,000 subscribers) in Thailand in 2016.
