It’s not enough for junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha to take control of the country, he also wants a say in your diet.
Prayuth said Wednesday that he wants to close down all restaurants serving wild meat and that he wants Thais to stop eating it for the sake of the animals.
During a speech given on World Wildlife Day, Prayuth pointed out that Thais who eat wild meat think it has aphrodisiac powers or is healthy and that this leads to the animals to being hunted for meat.
“If they want food which is good for health, they should just go to a drug store and buy the vitamins,” he said, although vitamins are not food.
He also mentioned the animal items most often used in Chinese medicine, “Tiger’s gall, bear’s gall means the life of the animal,” he said, urging Thais to protect wildlife, According to Thai PBS.
He suggested that humans and wildlife co-exist peacefully.
The prime minister, however, admitted that he was powerless against stopping people from eating shark’s fin because it tastes so good.
“Many people think they (shark fins) are delicious. But if they saw how the sharks had their fins cut off, they might stop eating them,” he said, adding that he used to enjoy shark’s fins but has stopped eating them because he has pity on the animals.
