Young French tourist died in hotel room from suspected food poisoning: police

Police suspect that a 27-year-old French tourist died from food poisoning or a severe allergic reaction after the man was found dead in his Phuket hotel room on Saturday morning.

The staff at the hotel, which was unidentified, reportedly discovered the tourist collapsed against a set of drawers in the room’s hallway, naked. The hotel notified police at 9:30am.

“At this stage we suspect them man died from food poisoning or a severe allergic reaction,” said Lt. Sirinath Cheuchutakulthong of the Patong Police.

The man, whose name has been withheld until his relatives are notified, reportedly checked into the hotel on Thursday. Police said there appeared to be no signs of struggle although “his room was in disarray.”

Police said the deceased, from Montreuil, France, seemed to have suffered a severe gastronomic reaction. The room’s garbage can was found full of fluid, and there were streaks of blood on the floor.

“We believe he died about six hours before his body was found,” Lt. Sirinath said.

“The man’s body has been sent to Patong Hospital for doctors to determine the cause of death. We will learn more then,” she said.
