Workers claim serow survived, released into the wild (Video)

Endangered though they may be, perhaps those goat-elopes have really thick skulls.

Footage of an endangered serow beaten senseless which went viral to the fury of many doesn’t show the whole picture, according to the cement plant worker who beat it with a steel pipe.

Wichai Wettana, 40, told police yesterday he beat the rare species of goat-antelope to the ground to keep it out of the Saraburi province plant’s machinery, police said.

In what appears to be footage of the same incident taken from another mobile phone, the serow appears still moving after the beating as its legs are tied together with rope.

The new footage titled “Serow is not dead” was posted last night by user Suwan Tongkum.

Although not shown in the footage, Wichai said that he and several colleagues took it by pickup truck into a nearby forest and released the animal.

Officials said they found hoofprints of the serow but didn’t see the animal, Bangkok Post reported.
