Bangkok’s newest rapid transit and monorail lines are nearing completion, according to government officials.
Anucha Burapachaisri, the deputy secretary-general to the prime minister for political affairs, said today that significant progress has been made on the MRT Orange rapid transit line as well as the Yellow and Pink monorail lines, stating that all of them are at “around 90% completion”,.
The Orange Line, the latest line in the capital’s mass transit system, will run from Thailand Cultural Centre Station to Min Buri and is said to be at 99.85% completion.
The Yellow Line, from Ladprao to Samrong, is currently undergoing testing with trial runs and safety inspections scheduled for this month before it launches publicly next month.
The Pink Line, which runs from Khae Rai to Min Buri, is expected to begin trial runs in January 2024, with plans to launch in June later that year.
All three projects have been a source of consternation from the public as work on the skytrain lines has created massive traffic jams throughout Bangkok. Anucha said that since all three line are nearing completion, the regular flow of traffic should be restored later this year.
Construction on the Orange and Pink lines began in December 2017 while work on the Yellow line began in March 2018.
