Wonderfruit kicks off with Thai country music, Tiki bar, and arty workshops (PHOTOS)

Arts and music festival Wonderfruit returned for the second year yesterday, with most performers and booths preparing and setting up for the long weekend, giving festival goers just a glimpse of what they can expect over the next three days.

After the festival opened at 4pm, yesterday was the day to get settled and explore the field of Siam Country Pattaya, with most early birds being tourists who had flown into Thailand for the four-day festivities. Some food trucks, bars, and workshop stations were still setting up their booths, and performers were still practicing, but the site looks like it would deliver on its promises for great music, food, arts and lots of fun.

The highlight yesterday was the Molam Bus by Jim Thompson, playing authentic Thai country music. There was no music line-up on the first day so most partiers spent the day relaxing at the popular Tiki Bar for their dose of alcohol.

For DIY lovers, there seems to be more workshops than last year, from painting watercolor portraits to creating your own mask. Meanwhile, the kids’ zone will include the Chao Khun Thong puppet show, which won the hearts of 90s Thai kids when it was broadcast every morning before school.

Another highlight to expect today is the free-running workshop by Team Farang, which will teach participants some beginners’ moves of how to jump, roll, balance and leap through obstacles at the kids’ zone.
