Tickets went on sale today for Wonderfruit, a three-day music festival that will try to be a little bit of everything.
Taking place mid-December, Wonderfruit will take place in Chonburi province southeast of Bangkok with a “something for everyone” approach to the music: the line-up and stages range from EDM electro and house to reggae, punk, folk and blues, among others.
Tickets for the three-day event run THB6,000, and organizers seem more intent on drawing international festival hoppers to Thailand.
“Situated in a favourite spot for travellers worldwide, Wonderfruit’s aim is to bring people of all nationalities together for the ultimate immersive, inclusive, socially conscious and sustainable experience,” their news release reads.
Confirmed live acts include Hercules Love Affair, Seth Troxler, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Nick Mulvey.
Organized by the team behind the UK’s Wilderness Festival, the event also promises: “boutique dining, eco-farming, art, theatre, film, talks, debates, workshops, outdoor pursuits, spectacles, parades and health and wellbeing experiences.”
Sustainability and sensitivity for the environment are discussed.
“All too often, large-scale music festivals leave a scar on the land,” said Jo Vidler of Secret Productions. “Fields of mud, plastic, empty cans, discarded tents and more are left on-site with toxic toilet chemicals leaching into the soil. Wonderfruit actively looks to work with and improve the land it sits on, using only natural and locally sourced materials for its structures and stages.”
The actual site for the festival isn’t mentioned, but festival co-founder Pranitan “Pete” Phornprapha, scion of the billionaire family behind Siam Motors Group, said it will be on land owned by organizers.
“Since we own the land, we will be creating some permanent sustainable models for the festival, and the experience as a whole, to serve as an advocate for eco friendly and sustainable ways. We want to help people understand that social responsibility and enterprising shouldn’t be viewed separately.
