Women turn lead into gold at Asian Games

Thailand’s women athletes continue to bring home the gold as cyclist Jutathip Maneephan proved the fastest woman and an odd couple triumphed in doubles tennis.

Jutathip of Roi Et province pedaled 126 kilometers in the rain for 3 hours and 39 minutes to just edge out her Vietnamese and Taiwanese competitors for the kingdom’s fifth gold.

Later Monday, tennis pro Tamarine Tanasugarn and newbie Luksika Kumkhum banded together to dash the final hopes of a Taiwanese duo, clinching gold the sixth.

Thailand’s haul, including two silver and 13 bronze medals, ranks 10th among the 20 participating nations. Chinese athletes are far and away owning the event with 113 gold, 72 silver and 54 bronze medals.
