Woman wins THB10 million in childbirth court case against Bangkok Hospital

A Japanese woman who was left disfigured following a childbirth procedure at a Bangkok hospital was awarded THB10.2 million by Bangkok’s Civil Court yesterday.

Mikayo Ito sustained 3rd degree burns during a surgical delivery at Bangkok Hospital in February of last year.

Ito filed a lawsuit against her obstetrician, the hospital and the medical device company saying the procedure left her scared with a 15cm wide line that stretches from her right breast to her right thigh.

The medical device company was cleared of all wrongdoing, but Dr. Theera Watcharapreechanont was deemed negligent.  Ito is sill pursuing criminal charges against Bangkok Hospital, owned by Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Plc, and Dr. Theera for their carelessness.

Ito said that she has not received apologies from the hospital or her obstetrician, adding that both refuse to accept responsibility for their actions, reports the Bangkok Post.
