No more overbearing heat and sweaty upper lips — it’s time to bundle up, prepare a store of firewood, and ready hearth and home for that annual visit from ol’ St. Nick. Yes, it’s officially “winter” in Thailand on Saturday.
The Thai Meteorological Department today made the announcement we eagerly await all year, putting a notice of winter’s imminent arrival on their official website, and warning residents to take care during that annual vicious drop in temperatures we’re all so familiar with.
On a less fanciful note, the department notes that rainfall will also begin to taper off, though our friends in the country’s south will continue to experience daily heavy rain for quite a while yet.
So mark your calendar! Saturday may be the day you need a very thin cardigan to survive in 30 degrees Celsius temperatures.
