What did you do on Saturday? This family of about a dozen wild elephants (yes, a dozen!) had a relaxing afternoon as they played in a reservoir in the area of Kaeng Krachan National Park.
The Department of National Park, Wildlife, and Plants Conservation (DNP) yesterday shared some incredibly cool clips of the pachyderm family in Kaeng Krachan, an elephant-prone area in central Phetchaburi province.
Officials said there were 17 elephants on hand including three babies, but we only managed to count 12 heads bobbing in the water as we checked out the video ourselves.
As there’s a road cutting through the national park, officials noted that they had to step in and handle the traffic flow to make sure both of the elephants and motorists were safe.
Another clip showed the family crossed the road, with a small elephant seemingly leading the herd.
While there are no official records, DNP estimated the number of wild elephants in 68 reserve forests in Thailand to be anywhere from 3,500 to 6,000. Anywhere from 400 to 600 wild elephants are believed to roam free every day in Kaeng Krachan alone.
