White woman gives major side eye to Look Thep on Seattle flight, hilariously live tweets everything

We might be used to Look Thep here, the supposedly haunted dolls meant to bring wealth and blessings, but most people in the Western world have a seriously “WTF?” reaction when they run into a grownup carrying a doll and treating it like a child.

Recently, novelist Sara Nović was unlucky enough to find herself seated beside a look thep on an overnight flight from Seattle to Houston. She was a bit scared and very weirded out but, thankfully for us, she hilariously live-tweeted her reaction to flying beside the spooky doll and its middle-aged male owner.

As is the custom, the look thep had it’s own purchased seat, just as a normal child would. That was the first thing that weirded Nović out.

When they started chatting, the man told Nović that the doll’s name was Barbara.

Surprisingly, Nović told Esquire that the doll’s owner did not appear to be Asian.

Ok, then we’ll bet he’s just hanging out with Barbara to appease his Thai wife.

The woman noted that, aside from having the weird doll, the man appeared normal and friendly. She said, “he didn’t do anything with it except put his arm out to protect it during takeoff and express incredulity to the attendant that he should not enter her name and birthdate on her ticket info.”

She also said that the airline staff all wanted to pose for pictures of themselves with the passenger and his doll.

Instead of being terrified, Nović should have asked Barbie to hook up some lottery numbers.
