A cute baby elephant’s adoration of a tractor driver has been captured on a heartwarming video.
Kham La, which means “darling,” has a bit of a soft spot for tractor driver Darrick who works at the Chiang Mai elephant sanctuary, Elephant Nature Park.
The playful pachyderm has been filmed running up to Darrick’s tractor with her herd when she spots him from a distance.
As the tractor comes to a stop and Darrick pets her from his window, Kham La flaps her ears and bellows happily.
“This is the amazing bond between baby elephant Kham La and Darrick,” the video caption reads.
“They are always looking for each other at the park. When Kham La sees him, she and her herd always run to say hi to him every morning even from a far distance at Elephant Nature Park.”
Kham La, who is five years old, was born in a trekking camp in Kanchanaburi and soon afterwards separated from her mother so she could be “broken” and work with humans.
But happily she was rescued by the Save Elephant Foundation and reunited with her mother Mae Sai Ngem at the rescue and rehabilitation center.
Sadly Mae Sai Ngem was too traumatised to bond with her daughter again, but Kham La has lots of new friends including Darrick.
