Weekend shootings leave one dead, one injured

One death and one serious injury have resulted from a pair of shootings that took place this weekend in Narathiwat.

Both of the attacks took place on Saturday night near 6:30PM.

The first attack came from a motorcycle rider who opened fire with an AK47 into a defense volunteers’ kitchen with the objective of killing several of the volunteers. Though the volunteers left the incident unscathed, the attack did claim the life of Anchalee Laochan, 23, the wife of one of the kitchen workers.

Minutes later, a second shooting took place in front of a Ban Yalaebo-area garment factory. In this second incident, a motorcycle-bound assailant shot 19-year-old Nipataya Awae in the back while she drove home on her motorcycle.

The Bangkok Post reports that Nipataya is alive, though she remains in critical condition.
