Warrior on a White Steed: Bangkok ‘Spartan’ charged with public nuisance

Astride a white mount and hoisting his spear skyward while dodging traffic, one of the most feared soldiers of ancient Greece bared his nipples on a glorious ride through the metro area.

The Thai Leonidas, outfitted in Spartan warrior garb, was arrested Thursday afternoon in Nonthaburi province after he rode his motorbike around the Pak Kret intersection, even hopping off his bike and walking across a traffic crossing for a few seconds.

In fact he was 29-year-old Anan Pachanapreeda, who told police that he was a YouTuber with a prank channel called Ramer (or lamer which means “sleepwalking” in Thai) and out to create new content for his fans by invading Bangkok traffic hell dressed up as a fierce Spartan.

Anan was charged with causing a public nuisance, carrying a weapon in the public and riding a motorbike without a helmet, according to Lt. Col. Noppatorn Wachaiyung of Pak Kret Police. Guess Corinthian helms don’t count.

Either way, the police seemed semi-amused, allowing Anan to hold onto his spear during the requisite photo op.

Anan apologized for his actions.

“I apologize to every motorist and commuter,” he said. “Although what I did might have made you smile or laugh, in the future I will be more careful and considerate.”
