A Thai woman was caught on video throwing a bag of hot noodle soup at a food vendor in Chiang Mai after she asked for a big portion that the food stall could not deliver, in an incident that was reported in the media yesterday.
Food stall worker Kham Loongtah, 26, suffered burns on her neck and chest after the plastic bag used to hold the noodle soup burst as it hit her.
Kham said the angry customer, who was not identified, ordered Khanom Chin Nam Ngiao, a rice noodle topped with spicy pork soup, to take away and demanded Kham add more of the soup in a “big bag,” but the employee responded, “This is the biggest bag we have.”
Angered by the small bag, the woman threw the noodles at Kham and said that the victim got on her nerves. The woman’s boyfriend stepped in to apologize and offer to take Kham to the hospital. Scared of the couple, she refused.
Kham went to the hospital on her own, but the couple has agreed to cover her THB10,000 medical expense.
Nevertheless, Kham said that her family is missing her income because she has had to take several days off from work to recover from the burns.
She has been employed at the food stall in the Santitham area for four years and makes around THB700 ($US21) per day by working two shifts from 11am to 2am.
Kham said that she doesn’t hold grudges, but she has filed a police report and hopes the woman will take responsibility for her actions.
